CleanWhale cleans SoHo lofts the way they are actually built: cast-iron columns in the middle of the living space, 12-to-14-foot pressed-tin ceilings, and an open kitchen with no partition. Apartment cleaning starts from $151 for a one-bedroom, and you can book online in a few minutes. Below 10013 is roughly half single-person households, so most of our jobs here are one or two people in a large open plan — different work from a walled UES apartment of the same square footage.

The housing stock behind Prince and Greene

SoHo is a mix of Artist-in-Residence co-ops and post-2000 conversion condos, and in some AIR buildings the owner still has to certify an active art practice. The building plates run 25x100 feet, 50x100 on corners, and the full-floor plans are fully open, so a single cleaning covers the whole footprint with no doors to break it up. Ceilings are the highest of any Manhattan district we cover: 12 to 14 feet, up to 16 in the deep lofts with original timber trusses.

What that means for a clean is specific. Load-bearing cast-iron columns, 10 to 12 inches across, fluted and usually painted, stand right in the room and collect dust along every flute. The floors are original wide pine and fir plank, restored rather than replaced, so they get soft-cloth and pH-neutral treatment, not a wet mop that swells the grain. Pressed-tin ceilings and exposed brick shed differently than plaster. And the cast-iron-framed windows are huge, heavy, and multi-part; under landmark rules replacing one runs into the thousands, so most are original and we treat them as irreplaceable, not disposable glass.

Getting into your building

This is where SoHo diverges hardest from the Upper East Side: concierges are often absent. In many buildings there is just a key-operated freight elevator on weekday hours, and it frequently opens directly into your apartment. Booking that freight window is the central access question, not a doorman handoff. Because a staffed lobby is the exception, lockboxes and key handling matter here for owners who travel; we can work from a lockbox or a building key on file. If your board requires a certificate of insurance, we issue a COI naming the co-op and managing agent as additional insured, usually within 30 days; some boards ask for limits up to a set multiple of the $1M baseline, so tell us early.

What we clean here

Every job includes the standard kitchen, bath, floors, dusting and surfaces checklist. In SoHo we add:

  • Cast-iron columns — dust pulled out of the flutes, not just wiped on the face.
  • Open-kitchen grease — with no partition, cooking grease drifts across the whole loft, so we degrease the range zone and the surfaces downwind of it, not just the counter.
  • Pressed-tin ceilings and exposed brick — dry, careful dusting suited to each.
  • Original plank floors — pH-neutral, low-moisture care for restored pine and fir.
  • Cast-iron radiators — behind the covers, since most of these buildings are steam-heated.

Pricing

Apartment cleaning starts from $151 for a one-bedroom, $179 for two bedrooms, and $207 for three bedrooms. Sales tax at this SoHo job address is 8.875%. Recurring plans — weekly, twice-monthly, or monthly — carry a discount off the one-time rate, which is worth it in an open loft where dust settles fast on the columns and tin.

FAQ

My freight elevator is key-operated and weekday-only. Can you still come?

Yes. Tell us the building's freight window when you book and we schedule the crew inside it. In many SoHo buildings this is the only way up, so we plan around it rather than treating it as an afterthought.

The elevator opens straight into my loft and no one is at the door. How does access work?

We work from a lockbox or a building key on file. Since staffed lobbies are rare here, this is normal for us, and it is how we serve owners who travel.

Will you damage the original plank floors or the tin ceiling?

No. Restored pine and fir get low-moisture, pH-neutral care, and pressed tin is dry-dusted. We treat original landmark-era materials as irreplaceable.

Do you handle the COI my board wants?

Yes. We name the co-op and managing agent as additional insured on a $1M base; some boards require higher limits, so send the requirements when you book.

Why does the open kitchen matter for cleaning?

With no wall around it, grease from cooking spreads across the entire loft over time. We clean the range zone and the surfaces it reaches, which a standard walled-kitchen clean misses.

We also cover the neighboring districts — TriBeCa, Nolita, Greenwich Village and Hudson Square. Book your SoHo apartment cleaning online and pick the freight-elevator window that fits your building.
