One-time cleaning

CleanWhale cleans apartments across Chelsea, from the floor-to-ceiling glass condos strung along the High Line to the pre-war walk-ups east of Seventh Avenue. It is the most mixed neighborhood we work in, so we quote and staff each visit to the actual home rather than a template. Apartment cleaning starts from $151, and you can book online in a couple of minutes.

The Chelsea housing stock, and what it means for cleaning

Chelsea splits cleanly in two. East Chelsea is 19th-century brownstones and five- and six-story pre-war walk-ups: wide-plank and parquet floors, exposed brick, marble mantels, hex tile in the baths, cast-iron tubs, and steam radiators against most walls. These homes carry the same details as the majority of the city's pre-1947 stock, so cleaning behind radiator covers, around window guards where a child 10 or under lives, and along fire-escape sashes is routine work here, not an add-on.

West Chelsea is the opposite building type. Former printing houses and garages have become lofts with 11- to 14-foot ceilings, and a dense strip of towers lines the High Line — 551 West 21st, 200 Eleventh Ave, 245 Tenth Ave, and 500 West 22nd among them. In these homes glass is the dominant surface, so interior glass cleaning is a recurring part of the standard visit rather than an upsell; on the tallest walls we use telescopic poles. New-build finishes run to French herringbone, Blanco Macael marble, and Sub-Zero, Miele, and Gaggenau appliances, each of which we treat with the matching cloth and product — polished marble never sees an acidic spray, shellacked herringbone never gets a soaked mop. Many High Line condos add terraces and roof decks, where outdoor furniture, decking, and terrace glass are handled as a separate service. Two large non-market blocks, London Terrace and Penn South, plus NYCHA's Fulton and Elliott-Chelsea houses, round out a district where homeownership sits at 21.2%.

Getting into your building

Access in Chelsea is as dual as the architecture. West Chelsea condos run a concierge, a package room, and a freight elevator booked to fixed weekday windows; weekend moves of anything bulky are often banned, and crews register as contractors before the first visit. Most of these boards ask for a certificate of insurance — the baseline is $1M naming the building as additional insured, and some boards require limits up to several multiples of that. We file the COI naming the co-op and managing agent, and the cert usually issues within about 30 days, so book ahead of a first clean. When we use the service entrance and freight cab, we pad the floor and walls.

East Chelsea walk-ups are the reverse. Entry is by intercom or a lockbox for owners who travel, we hold keys securely for recurring clients, and because there is no elevator we count the stair flights into the quote so nothing is a surprise at the door.

What we clean here

Every visit covers the shared checklist — kitchen, bathrooms, floors, dusting, surfaces, trash — plus the details that are specific to Chelsea homes:

  • Interior floor-to-ceiling glass in High Line towers and loft conversions, poles for 11-to-14-foot walls.
  • Cast-iron radiators and the dust that collects behind their covers.
  • Polished marble halls and mantels, hex tile, and cast-iron tubs, cleaned by material.
  • French herringbone and wide-plank floors, dry-method where the finish calls for it.
  • Terraces, decking, and terrace glass in condos, quoted as a separate outdoor service.

Pricing

Apartment cleaning starts from $151 for a one-bedroom, $179 for two bedrooms, and $207 for three bedrooms. Sales tax at this Chelsea job address is 8.875%. Recurring plans — weekly, twice-monthly, or monthly — carry a standing discount off the one-time rate, and stair flights or a large glass package are reflected in the quote before you confirm.

FAQ

Is interior glass cleaning included or extra in a High Line tower?

Included. In the glass condos along the High Line it is the dominant surface, so we build it into the standard visit and bring telescopic poles for the tallest walls. Exterior terrace glass is the separate outdoor service.

Can you clean my terrace or roof deck too?

Yes, as an add-on. Outdoor furniture, decking, and terrace glass are quoted separately from the interior clean — just add it when you book.

My East Chelsea building is a walk-up. How does that affect the price?

We count the number of stair flights to your door as a pricing factor. Tell us the floor when you book and it is reflected in the quote up front.

Does my building need a certificate of insurance?

Most West Chelsea condos do. We issue a COI naming the building as additional insured, typically the co-op and managing agent; some boards require higher limits. It usually takes up to 30 days, so schedule a first clean with lead time.

I travel — can you clean while I'm away?

Yes. We hold keys securely for recurring clients or work from a building lockbox, common in the walk-ups, so the clean happens on schedule whether or not you are home.

We also clean nearby in the West Village, Greenwich Village, the Flatiron District, Hell's Kitchen, and the Meatpacking District. Book your Chelsea apartment cleaning online, or send us your building and floor for a firm quote.
